Hello, I am new to the hobbie. My tank is only 10g and I cycled it with a redtail shark. After more research and advise from people here, I finally accepted that my 10g was too small for the RTS. I returned him, it was hard to do.

So my new questions are....

Would 5 or 6 tiger barbs work in my 10g by themselfs?

If I got two Blue Rams, could they both be boys and get along, and could I add anything else?

Any advise is appreciated, thank you.

I agree with Rich. I love Tiger Barbs, but they do better in a larger school and they need a lot of room to swim around. A pair of Rams and maybe a school of small tetras would be better for a 10g tank.

I totally agree. Even without the rams, that tank is far too small for tiger barbs. I have to say, though, that having kept both species, I prefer the rams because I just think they are more interesting. Dwarf cichlids (like rams) have a lot of personality. They need very good water quality, though, so just keep a few small tetras with them and resist the urge to add more fish! You'll have to keep up on your water changes too, for sure.

They've said it all. The barbs are WAY too active for that small of a tank and require too large a grouping.
