OK If this fish selection sounds odd its because the 20G we have is my wifes and she picks what ever fish she wants takes me alot of arguing sometimes. Anyway we or should I say she ;) Have a 20G with 1 angel, 1 ram and 1 fancy tail male guppy and a chinese algae eater. Ok the tank used to have all guppys they eventually died one little fry somehow managed to survive and grow real nice with no extra fry care at all. He is still in the tank and tries to mate with the Ram (it sure looks like it to me) he is always right aside of the Ram by his behind. This guppy is either confused or lonely or both. Now she wants either another Ram or a Angel. The tank has been this way for over 6 months now with no real problems. The angel is looking very nice. Do you think she can add one more fish or just leave the tank alone. Also the Algae eater is growing and harassing the Ram alot, nothing else just the Ram. Poor Ram is being bothered by what seems to be a love sick guppy.:D and also by a pesty algae eater. I was thinking she should maybe get another ram maybe as a team they would be more happy. Just trying to tell my wife what to buy isn't very easy. Also how does this work, her tank is in the livingroom and my 55 is set up in my basement. Its a real nice finished room but it still is the basement. Guess you all know who wears the pants here. Not me!! :D

If I was going to cut a fish for another ram I would get ride of the CAE. From all the sites I read about them they get from 6-10" and aggresive/territorial. Also I don't think they do alot of alagae eating (if thats what hes there for) when they get larger. Maby get a snail also if you are worried about algae.
Im sure childawg will chime in, he is better at placing fish then me :D
On the wife thing I was able to convince mine to let me have a tank in the living room and in my computer room. The one in my compunter room doesnt even have fish yet and I am already trying to convince her to let me have a 10g shellie tank in the bedroom :P I guess I am just lucky:cool:

I kind of like the algae eater. Would he do ok if I took him and put him in my 55 Cichlid tank. That Tank has 2 Jewels, 2 zebra mbuna
Red zebra a Clown Pleco and a silver $. They are all very small except for the Silver $. He was left over from the tank before I made it a Cichlid tank. I don't want the Alage Eater harassing anything in there, but maybe these fish would put him in his place a little beter. Would the Clown Pleco fight with him? They are close to the same size. Say maybe 2 1/2 inches.

Try to find out which gender the ram is and get him/her a suitable mate. I agree with Anaxus to get ride off the cae and get som corys instead, they're pretty good in cleaning up the left-overs. I guess the singel male guppy is trying to get ride off its libido so adding some females wont be a bad idea.
It also provides some extra proteins to the other fish as guppys can be pretty fruitfull. I don't have any experience with angels, I'll leave any comments on that to someone else.
(Btw, I don't think any man will ever wear the pants when it comes to it)

I would put the CAE in the 55, and put the clown pleco in the 20. If you get another Ram, they will probably fight (unless they pair up, but rams are usually kindof picky about their mate). If I were you, I would get a few more guppies to keep the one you have busy. I don't think he would bug the ram if there were other guppies in the tank.

Thats all good advice. I still want to know could the CAE and the Clown Pleco be together in the 55? The Clown Pleco seems to be happy where he is I don't want to move him. There are a few different caves and such in my 55 he could find one that the pleco doesn't use. The pleco pretty much hangs out in one all the time.

I would leave the Clown Pleco in the 55.
I guess you'll have to find out about the CAE

Only thing I would be worried about is a CAE could attach himself to another fish and feed off its slime coat. I am not sure if the pleco or CAE would fight. But from what I read the CAE might set up a teratory and defend it.

pleco's do the same thing about attaching themselves to feed off of a fish's slime coat so if the pleco isn't doing it chances are the CAE isn't going too (fish aren't big enough), do like jimbo said get some cories after you move the CAE to the 55 and yes the CAE will be ok with the pleco.:)

I have two cae and they fight each other a lot, but they do set up territories, and sometimes they defend them, mine normally just run away from my Pictus or my Green Terror. They do get big mine are about 4-4.5" and still growing. A warning, they will attach themselves to fish that are slow swimmers that are inactive at night, I had a school of tiger barbs that fell victim to mine, but then I got more agressive fish and they are all fine together so far. If you have a pleco that is attaching to fish then he is starving, you need to give him more algae, The cae on the other hand will eat on earthworm feeders I give to my GT. So be careful you might come home one day and your ram might be dead.
The CAE and the pleco will be fine together in the 55. I know many people that put CAEs in with cichlids since CAEs can get quite aggressive. Did you know that clown plecos need wood in their diet so I hope you have a piece of driftwood in the tank.
You should get 2 female guppies because the male is going to stress out your ram and rams don't tolerate stress well.
Don't get another angel. Angels should have 10 gallons of water apiece, so if you want another angel in that tank you couldn't have any other fish (or shouldn't).
If a pleco is attaching itself to a fish at night yes it does mean its hungry but you should be giving it more than just algae. Try shrimp pellets. tubifex cubes and what not. My pleco's love them. Try algae wafers too because chances are in a home aquarium natural algae feedings are few and far between and besides that most plecos lose their algae eating tendencies once they mature. And as I said before Pleco and CAE will be fine together. The cae may be territorial but why don't you run your finger across that pleco's back and then think about what that cae could do no matter how pissed it became at the plec ;)

i would take out the CAE and put it in the 55g if u want but it will still be a mean fish. they just get like that when they older. but i would buy another ram of the ppostite sex of the 1 she already has.

RTR has a link on one of these AC forums about the proper feeding of plecos.
Really good stuff.

Here is that link http://www.tomgriffin.com/aquamag/pleco2.html
Thats a pretty darn good link there. Even helped me and I thought my plecos were spoiled. They get a weekly feeding of Cucumber or zucchini and algae wafers, tubifex worms, and shrimp pellets as staple

I took all the advice and I moved the CAE to my 55. I got some cories and a female guppy for the 20g. Everything seems great. Thanks to everyone for the great info.

I would place at least 2 or better 3 female guppys.
Just one female is like doing hard time for her.
