Hi

I am planning to buy Live Sand, LR and fishes all together from an established tank (since the LR has lots of coraline algae on it) and put into my tank. I just have an empty tank right now. In that case, do I still need to cycle my tank before putting LS, LR and fishes? Will nitrifying bacteria attached on LR and LS will be enough? Thanks in advance.

You could add the LS and LR immediately, IF you've kept the sand and rock wet during the move, and IF the LS has not been in the other tank for a long time - if the LS is quite "old" you will find that it contains a LOT of detritus, and you will probably have to rinse it a few times before the water will be clear. If this is the case, I would add the LS first, having rinsed it thoroughly in old tank water. Then add AGED new salt water and let the system run for at least one week. Test for ammonia and nitrites, and if OK then add the LR. Let run for at least another week and test for ammonia and nitrite again, and only add the fish if the readings are still zero.
