I made this thread in SW but I think I'll get more useful input here so if anyone wants to delete the other one feel free.

I'm having heat issues in my sw tank, 55gal with 4x65w CF lights. I think most of the heat is coming from the lighting. A friend of mine told me his T5s run much cooler than the CFs. This would be preferable for two reasons - less heat being put into the tank, and the energy consumed would be used for creating light instead of heat. Looking for some feedback from people who have used both. Would it make a big difference?

The thing with T5HO lights, they still run hot. I would consider the heat less than CF but still hot. Because the T5H0 lights are usually raised off the tank by a foot or two using legs or hung, they are even cooler and the heat doesn't effect the tank as much. CF lights are usually found build inside canopies that hold in heat.

Anyways, I would try using fans off your current CF light fixtures, before switching over to T5HOs
