Hello all, the guy I am buying my new tank from finally sent me some pictures. If things still go as planned I should have this sitting in my house sometime late next week, just waiting for our schedules to match up and his truck to be available. As for the size of the tank... well... He advertised it as a 77, from my visual measurments it was (4ftx2ftx1.5ft) or 90 gallons, and when I asked him for the measurments he said it was 4 feet long, 3 feet high and 2 feet deep... he clearly didnt measure it as it is defintly not a 170+ gallon tank, but regardless here are some pics. I apologize for the quality of them, I will take some better ones the minute I get it set up!

The tank is either 75, 77 or 90, wont know for sure until I get it home. But yes it is sickly overstocked, I feel bad for the fish, the minute it gets into my possession I am going to find out exactly what all the fish are, African, SA/CA and whatever else he has in there and find the best route of getting rid of some of them.

meh its not THAT overstocked... africans are routinely overstocked and calm them down a bit. If you got rid of the extra **** (I think I saw some tiger bars, and rainbows) it wouldn't be that bad. Of course, I am just staring at a picture so you woudl no better.

The decor needs a ton of work though.

Almost looks like a 55 to me, it looks kind of narrow.

I really hope it's a 90 though, those are sweet tanks!

Looks like a Mono in w/ Africans & Tiger barbs... Somebody's gotta go. I'd probably keep the Africans and trade the rainbows, barbs & angel/Mono-whatever it is to the LFS for some more structure/cover and background. Maybe some nice driftwood w/ Java fern attached (looks like it may have good lighting but needs a better canopy).

Yeah I was planning ont rading stuff into the lfs but when ic alled them to get details on doing so they advised they do not do this... which is weird because when they wrongly sold me two Columbian Catfish for me 33 Gallon they said if they outgrew the tank to bring them in for store credit, so I don't know what their story is. But as for the decor, I live on the ocean so I have acces to an abundance of free rocks, probably have to make a coupe trips, but it will be done.

Yeah, it is really over stocked, I guess some of these pictures are up to a year old. When I went to see it in person last week it made me almost puke. I lost count around 32 ful size cichlids, plus the other fish, plus a good foot long pleco and 3 or 4 catfish. You are right about the aggression as there is apparently none that I seen anyways, there were 3 or 4 female cichlids that were hidding in the few "caves" thata re available, these ones are holding and fomr what the guy said, to scared to spit them because of the other fish. SO once I get them here I am planning on dropping them into my 20 Gallon that currently has some tetras in it but lots of tiny caves the tetras pay no attnetion to, hopefully this will all work out.

Looks like a 55g footprint, but maybe a little taller - 70g?

Yup, I can find the mono in all shots besides the darkened one. When all the transactions are over, you should tell him how overstocked it is and what a horrible person he is for doing that. A brackish mono that gets 2 or 3 feet tall in a small tank with dozens of africans, a couple tiger barbs and a rainbow?!

Oh come on. Who's really going to call someone a horrible person for that. Ignorance doesn't make you horrible, and with the wealth of bad advice that stores dish out, so many of us make ill-informed decisions when starting a tank.

The majority of those fish are africans, so NO it is NOT overstocked. Is that a mono in there or an angel without fins?

After looking at pictures of both online, the real life thing looks exaclty like a mono, but when I get the tank here I will take a better photo and post it for opinions.

mono are brackish fish, and will get beaten up by the africans...they are just to aggressive. the tiger barb and rainbow should also be in bigger schools, so you should consider finding a new home for all three of them.

its a mono sebae (sp.)

It's a 55g tank. I agree with everyone on getting rid of everything but the African Cichlids. I'd add a lot more rock-work, as well.

Nope its not a 55g, using a voume calculator it comes out to 79.8 G without taking the glass thickness into account. Measured the glass also to be 1/4 Inch thick so that gives it 77.3 Gallons.

77 gallons should be fine for the africans, but take out the "other" fish to keep them from getting bullied, and the mono doesnt mix well.

:)
I stand corrected. It does appear to be taller than a standard 55g. That would be a great tank for Discus or Angels, BTW.

I'd hate to question you, but what are the actual dimensions of that tank? Length, width and height? Tanks are usually sold in a standard size unless it's a custom. It's bugging me, it's one of those things I would like to know.

Maybe the window in the back throws it off.. it must be a big window...

Thanks...

Those concrete blocks are probably standard 6X8X16. Using them as a mediocre guide the tank appears to be 48X13X24 or a 60G Tall.

I have measured it, nad as I posted it is exactly 48 inches long, 16 inches deep, and 24 inchs high. And yes Slappy, they are standard concrete bricks, but there is about a 10 inch gap that runs betwen the front row of them and the back row of them. I also measured the glass and it is 1/4 inch thick, which by the online calculators makes it 77. something gallons. I do not think it is a hagen or standard make aquarium as the lfs that it original came from said there are no canopies for it, so I am thinking that it was probably made by some small company that this lfs dealt with before.
