What would be the best light for cichlids. as of now I have a "life-glo". I want something that really brings out the colour of the fish without depriving them of any good things.
to be honest with you I never concerned myself much with my lighting arrangement - no real plants.
what's the rating (wattage) on your light (i presume we're talking about the 40g tank) ? unless its really over-powering it will be fine.
also, put it on a timer - fish like routine above all else...give them maybe 8 - 10 hours of the lights depending on time of year, how much natural daylight the tank gets etc.
A black or dark blue background will help pop out the colours, as does a dark substrate.
