It all started when I went to go buy an Eheim auto feeder but Petsmart didn't have it in stock. So I hesitantly bought a Penn-Plax Daily Double feeder which failed to worked properly. My week long vacation was the next day so I put Topfin vacation food. That was one of my worst mistakes. When i came home the tank glass was covered in thick sheets of algae, the plants and gravel were covered in algae as well. Since then I got most of it off but I still have carpets of algae on the gravel. I just did a water change today and siphoned the gravel which loosened a lot of algae so now it moves with current of the newly added pump. It forms carpets that hold the gravel together very tightly but I don't think it is cyano slime algae because it has no smell and doesn't come off easily. I've also seen my fish bite and eat bits of it so it can't be cyano slime. The tank is about 6 months old. I have 4 otos in there but they don't seem to eat much algae at all, even normal kinds. My tank is a 55 gallon. By the way the algae didn't affect and fish at all, even my German Blue Rams. My nitrates are very low.
