Does anyone have any helpful tips on building good caves for cichlids? When I try to build them with rocks the fish seem to have little interest.

A lot of people use pvc pipes. You can use aquarium-safe sealant to attach small rocks (gravel) or sand to make it more natural looking. I've also seen those terra cotta pots either set on there side or with part of it chipped out for a door and then set upside down.

I found that my cichlids like caves that have multiple exits and entrances.

you can use slate, or rock that already has holes through it. more caves the better to help keep aggression down.
In my 40g I have PVC Y and T connectors. In my 29g I have a small handful of coffee cups for caves.
I pile up rocks, some of which have natural holes in them so that there are multiple caves and multiple routes in, out and around them.

I arrange the rocks and slate into small caves or holes, then they dig them out even more to there liking, it gives them something to do instead of watching tv all day.......:)
