rams, apistos, kribs...most dwarf cichlids are peaceful
^ yup...I think a trio of rams/apistos (1 male/2 female) or a pair of kribs would be nice in your tank

I wouldnt consider kribs to be very peaceful. I like keyholes, curviceps, and dorsigerus

Keyholes,Aquidens curviceps,Kribs, Rams. With Keyholes being the least aggressive out of the bunch.

Honduran red points, or blue jack dempsey, they do not have the temper that thier brothers have, unless it is mating time.

An angel or two might work... although they do get fairly aggressive if they're laying//guarding eggs. I have a single angel that's working out well (he was a rescue).

Keyholes are always a good bet, also dwarf acaras like Laetacara curviceps are good.

No on the peacock, as they are African cichlids that need different water conditions. The problem with the severum is mostly due to its size. If you want a Central American cichlid, I'd go with Rainbow cichlids (Herotilapia multispinosa) instead of firemouths.

All the fish I mentioned above are readily available at my lfs...it kind of hard finding some of the fish that other members have suggested...I used to have a african cichlid tank and it had many barbs in it without any problems....I dont know if some of you guys could suggest where I might be able to get a hold of these recommended cichlids especially the Laetacara curviceps, Rainbow cichlids, and other colorful cichlids also if you could recommend some that are mid-level water fish

The curviceps are generally relatively common, and even a large chain store like PetsMart carries them most of the time. Rainbows in particular I've never seen at any of my LFS. Your LFS could probably order you some curviceps as they are widely available.

The petsmart where I live really sucks....they just have the basic stuff and half of the time the people working there dont even know what they are talking about....I called one time to the store to ask if they sold glofish and they said no because they are saltwater fish....I explained to them that they were zebra danios and they still argued that they are saltwater fish...

I thought Tiger barbs only nipped their own if you have enough of them.
I 2d the "No" on Firemouths...

Squawkbert what about the firemouths?

Firemouths - a little too aggressive & large for the mix, I think.
I double checked a Tiger barb profile (Badmans) - it specifically reports that they shouldn't be around Angels and there are comments leading me to believe that minimization of aggression by keeping groups is not reliable.
My bad.

Tigger barbs are notorious fin nippers and should never be kept with angels under any circumstances.

On the topic of Firemouths I would say it totally depends of the personality of the firemouth and it's probably not worth the risk. The female of my pair could live with any fish on the planet and never bother them (as long as she's not guarding eggs or fry) but the male of my pair would kill half your tank in the first night.

I wouldn't put tiger barbs with most sa/ca dwarf cichlids. Has anybod tried t.barbs with kribs? I would want to see the barbs reaction to a pair of spawning kribs:evil_lol:

The kribs can be rather aggressive and may end up injuring heavily the tiger barbs more than the tiger barbs can nip at fins.

That's what I thought. Might put the barbs in their place
