Do I really need my HOB filters anymore?

I have a 55G tank that has 75LBS of live rock, a 30 gallon sump, a protein skimmer, two maxijet 1200s and a maxijet 400, about 50LBS of live sand, two HOB filters that I used before I added all the live rock and live sand, and a 200watt heater.

My question is do you think it would be ok if I took the two HOB filters out of the tank becuase of the lack of room and I don't like the way it looks. So, do I have enough live rock and stuff not to have the two HOB filters in my tank? At the moment I don't have any fish in the tank. I will start stocking in about 3 weeks or so. Thanks

I dont see any reason why you cannot move the filters off there, just remove the media over time from both filters, and then stand them down.

You have ample live rock in the tank to provide all the mechanical filtration that is required.

When I was upgrading from my 56gal to 90gal I had a canister filter along with 50 pounds of live rock. I removed and sold the canister filter and the 56gal was up and running with just the power heads and live rock for a few weeks. No ammonia spike and everything was doing great.

when I had my hob filter on my 55 gallon i was having all kinds of issues with water quality and algae but ever since i took it off I've had nothing but great things to say. Just get a really good protein skimmer and your live rock/power heads/skimmer will be your filtration. My tank has never looked better imo
