my fish was sick real sick on his side on the ground sick

bad water change.

fixed him up with alot of O2 and nice water . new filters etc

he has recovered from paralized and no balance . to using onlu front fins to swim . to now which is sporadic tail use but it's mostly limp . top fin is ok 75% for his length but then droops down near tail . I think he suffered nerve damage.

Can i help him are there steroids available .

He is a Dempsey . his tank mate is a female who wants to get it on with him . Only problem is when she tries to lip lock she

A) kicks his but
B) knocks him off balance and he flips upside down sometimes trying to right himself .

he has gotten better he can stabalize himself and navigate tank with front fins. has big trouble backing up with no tail use

i like him alot

any advise ?

Better to get them apart so he can heal. If you don't have a 2nd tank, try a divider or breeding net or something.

Yo Redeye,

When they are liplocking and the female is winning, it'll be more likely that she doesn't wants to get it on with him anymore. :D

But you could try Pfizer, just give them a call, perhaps they will come up with some ideas. ;)

Guys im serious .

They try to go thru all the mating rituals whenever i chage water.

she turns black

he tries to do the funky fish dance .. body twitching.
when he was healthy it would be massive swishing of his tail while displaying the broad side of his body to her as in hey check me out im huge.

they they would lip lock and push eachother.
he would dig a hole in the gravel .

eggs would be layed on a large flat rock in the tank .

most times my huge algea eater has a feast on them .

but now he is in bad shape .
i wanted to know if there is a steroid i can add to the water to promote healing or improve regeneration of dammaged nerves which is what the problem is i believe . he has stroke like symptoms parts of his tail are paralized im not sure if he can feel it well as he backs up into things all the time and shreads it because he cant use it to swim backward ..

and Yeah man she wants to get it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
she constantly tries to lip lock with him but he rarely accepts and when he does now he gets his *** kicked cause he has limited tail movement. he is a truely massive dempsey 8-9 inches and it is sad to see this once tough fish soo weak.

I can't kill him because he can still swimm eat and doesn't suffer other than his decreased mobility his swim bladder seems fine he can hover and move up and down parallel to the bottom .

there must be something i can do to help him out.

haha I can't help but laugh, this guys' great. I laughed the whole time reading with that dialogue good stuff lol. Anyway, I'd say you need to remove that guy to a quarantine tank and start researching possible diseases. Almost sounds like flukes to me. Could be something else, but sounds about like what my oscar was doing and he ended up having gill flukes. Search around. Then get that bad boy strong again and let him give the female what she wants :p. Check out www.skepticalaquarist.com

ok so is he still in the same tank as the female?

if he is take him out and put him in a quarrantine tank all by himself. you could try to treat him with stress coat, it is supposed to help with the natural slime coating and healing of injuries, in addition to teating water to make it safe.

he may have a disease as OPTIX suggesets so check that site he gave u, its a good site.

I was advised to use melafix for the treatment of injuries instead of stress coat. Stress coat contains aloe very which is very good for the fish when needed, but used in excess can clog gills.

yea melafix is another good common one that treats a wide variety of diseases.

for treatment of injuries i mean like injuries to the scales and the outside of the fish like cuts and scrapes, for stuff like REDEYEs he may need to go witht he melafix cause most of the symptoms seem to be inside the fish. (like paralyized fins, etc.)
