I recently got a whiptail catfish (sold to me as a leopard whiptail) and when doing research I read that it likes bogwood, somewhere else said bogwood OR driftwood...
Which leads me to my question: how is bogwood different than driftwood?
Also, does anyone have any experience with this fish and can tell me which one they had the best success with?
Thanks!

Bogwood in my area comes from Danish bogs (Ireland is also well know for it) where it has been preserved for a few thousand years. It basically stems from ancient forests. There are three types of bogwood, Oak, Yew, and Pine and bogwood is IME less apt to get fungus.
Driftwood is commonly know as the same thing, and I guess in a way it often is but my understanding is that it has not aged as much as bogwood and that true driftwood has seen lots of water and surf. I guess true driftwood won't let out as much tannins comparted to some of the driftwood I have seen that basically doesn't look like it has ever seen water, just a lot of blasting sand...
I wouldn't recommend treating it with ie.Polyurethane varnish since there are some that believe it no longer can produce microorganisms or 'lignin' (I have read that it helps in digestion and provdies certain nutritional requirements. (Loricarins: (catfishes, particularly Panaque species)).
