I just rescued a Koi and the lady that gave him to me said he eats grapefruit halves and watermelon (just remove the seeds).

I've always thought the citris acid in the oranges mess your Ph up. Is that true?

Petsmart feeds oranges, not lemons, so that's what you saw ;)
IME oranges etc have never effected my pH or any other part of my water quality, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. You just don't want to leave any type of fresh foods in your tank for extended periods of time as they tend to deteriorate rather quickly....that's when you may run into problems, but that goes for any food you feed fish.

My goldfish eat everything from frozen beefheart and small fish, to carrots and lettuce.

Wow I knew about watermelon and cucumber (our baby loves that) but not oranges. I too wondered about PH levels though from the citrus.

the oranges look yellow once they are in the water. Trust me they were not lemons...if they were the person who bought them and put them in the tanks would be up the creek without a paddle so to speak as it's not allowed. Against policy for petsmart...I know this because I used to work for them....who knows though....could have been lemons, but 99% they weren't. I don't see why petsmart doesn't want lemons fed as the fish don't mind either...they'll eat it regardless LoL ;)

Still, depending on what you're searching for, you'd have to go back pretty far.
