Same as topic, I bought this sucker yesterday and put it in the aquarium, it started running and I checked back about 13 hours later and the tank is around 75 degrees, me needed around 81. I have a tank right beside it (10gl) and the other one is running fine at 79degrees and runs on a 50watt. Is the new heater faulty that I just put on this 10gl or what else could be causing this? The indicator light does come on/off and I have the highest setting on but nothing still is changing? I just unplugged it for 15 mins, im gonna let the digital temp on the heater reset to the tanks temp and then put it back in at the average temp around 78 degrees as said on the manual...

If you plugged it in before the heater had adjusted to the tank's temp, it's internal thermometer is out of whack. Always let a new heater sit in the tank for an hour or so before plugging it in (the manufacturer's usually say 15 minutes, but I've found that a longer time works better).

Well I let it set for 20 mins (15 mins as said), its plugged in right now and is set on the default temperature which is point on the dial that indicates 78 degrees. It says wait 4-5 hours before changing the temperature which im waiting as of right now. I just hope I can get the temp up soon.

This is for the clowns with ick? Actually, the slower the temp increase, the better. A quick temp change can stress the fish, but a gradual increase will not.

What kind of thermometer are you using? If its just one of those cheap glass or stick on ones, they arent the most reliable. When I got my ebo-jager I thought it wasnt working right, but its probably just the thermometer off a bit. After all, almost every one I see in the lfs has a different reading.

i use stick on ones just for looks since all of my tanks have them, yet I still use internal ones...
