I would like to add plants to my cichlid tank as a test\experment some have has sucess some have not i currently have just two 30w 36in bulbs and i realize that is far less then i need what type of bulbs and how many should i use i plan to plant vallis and anubias i will not start with co2

Anubias don't require much light and would probably be the best bet for your cichlid tanks as they usually come in rockwool pots and the cichlids won't be able to dig them up. I'm not sure of the light requirements of vallisneria, but I'd think they would be dug up. Both anubias and java moss can be trained to grow on driftwood. Without knowing what cichlids you have or tank dimensions, it's hard to make a determination. I'm guessing 72" long. I have 4 shop lights staggered on my 110 for 320 watts of light. You could probably do 2 or 3 for the level of plants you want.

What's your tank dimensions?

What cichlids do you have?

ahsupply.com is a good retrofit kit source
lightbulbsdirect.com is a great bulb source
