Euthanizing Fish

I've been cycling a new tank with zebra danios and as might be expected, I've lost a couple of them to stress and bad water. Right now I have a third one that's looking pretty bad. He's having trouble swimming and can't stay upright...he keeps listing over to the right. My question is, since he's obviously not going to make it, and I dont want to flush him alive, nor watch him struggle until he dies, what is the best/most humane way to euthanize him?

May sound bad, but slam him on the floor.
Put him in a bag and hit him on the counter or something and he dies instantly.

This is important.

Do NOT freeze him. That is not "humane."

I don't see how hitting a fish against a counter would guarantee instant death or be very humane.

I haven't had to do this, thankfully, but I did purchase clove oil to have handy, just in case it is ever needed. It seems like the gentlest option to me. I found it at the drug store by the toothpaste. People use it as a toothache remedy.

If you hit it on the counter it will die.

May not be "humane" but it is as quick as it will get.

I've done an ice bath before, and it worked right away. I had rock salt and ice in a cup, then I put a little water and the fish in there. He went really quickly.
