hey.. i have one of my tanks set up with clown loaches in it, and i want to make it rivery, or give them a current area to swim in, i've never set up a tank like this, but i have one tank that has a powerhead and undergravel filter.. is that what people use to get water flowing? my loach tank has ample filtration already and i really don't want to take everything out to change the filter type... anyone know how to do this properly, so the current is pretty strong, but the fish won't get sucked into anything?

Penguin 660R powerhead comes with an intake filter. I think that (or something similar) would work nicely. Currently on sale at petsolutions...too.

I dont know how big a tank you have, but as clowns need large tanks and high flow I'd be looking at something more like the Koralia series pumps or Tunze. I put a Koralia 4 (1200gph rated) in my 75g loach tank (grow out tank - temporary) and they love it, constantly 'swimming in place' in the outflow and all congregating around it. However the Koralias have an open front and there is always a chance a loach might push thier way into it. These style high-flow pumps also disperse the flow more gently in a large cone shape, rather than the narrow jet like from a powerhead.

The koralia 3 or 4 looks like a good way to add more flow to a tank. I dont think they would pose any real danger to larger loaches.

thanks guys, i know the loaches need a new tank soon... right now they are babies, only about an inch and half long..maybe 2, i have 2 clowns and 2 yo-yo's in it, they are in a 40 gallon for now
(with a few other fish), but as soon as i get my huge tank(soon....can't wait to move next month to a place on solid ground) then i'll be giving them my lungfish's tank and adding a couple more clowns.... i just want them to be happy while they are in there, plus the big tank has a power head on it already, but i want to give them lots so they will be extra happy.... i got a crappy one today, i'm not sure what kind it is but the pressure isn't very strong... it made them really excited though, i don't think they've ever seen moving water before..lol..they r so cute
