srry its so long:lipssealedsmilie:

im srry i know i post alot...its kinda like my "fishtank xanga" lol.....so for something to do my buddy and I went to the lfs just a few minutes ago...i have been there before and i know its not the greatest and kinda gross ...which i have previously stated before....so today i went in on an investigation to see just how bad it really was.....well id say they have about 45-50 tanks....about 25-30 of them are empty.....the rest contain random fish.....example 1 of why i hate this place so much....each tank is a ten gallon tank and the only filtration is a large sump which all tanks are linked together ...ie all water is sucked out into the sump and then the return is branched out to flow back into them all.....which i know isnt to bad if ur tanks are good but when u have my next example...example 2 they have a lionfish by itself in a tank crammed into a corner...dead...not newly dead...like decomposing dead....two tanks down...some big catfish looking thing...idk it was orange...also dead.....then they have a blue tang (dory lol) in a ten gallon tank with an angel looking fish and two smaller looking ones not sure what they were but the blue tang had these crazy grays marks all over him...especially around the eyes and he was swimming funny...kinda like a dead fish rolls around but still had some kick left in him....it was sad, pathetic, and disgusting....and the lady was just standing behind the counter looking through a magazine..HELLO CLEAN UR TANKS....now example 3...now they have the nerve to overcharge ...i dont mean a little i mean a seaclone 150 normally about 90 bucks(www.thatfishplace.com (http://www.thatfishplace.com)) all the way up to 110 on some random online stores...is 155 dollars...yes 155...u can buy a nice nice nice one for an extra 50 bucks.....they were selling a magdrive 5 or whatever its called normally runs for what 50-60 bucks nope 137 (or was it 147) ill b nice and say 137 to give them some credit....now this is the only fishstore within about 2 hours....yup the only one ...unless u count petsmart...but they sell nothing for saltwater other then common things like thermometers and heaters....so yea that means on my drive back home from my hometown (different) i have to pick up whatever i need from (www.thatfishplace.com (http://www.thatfishplace.com) srry i love this place its on my way home too:drool: ) and drive it three hours ...so hopefully nemo will do fine on the drive.....so please feel free to voice ur opinions on this...maybe it will make me feel better

You might try voicing your concerns to the manager. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I know a few people have done that and ended up with part time jobs there even..lol

I have never gone to a Petco or Petsmart for aquarium related items, but they just opened an enormous PETCO near us (probably becuase of the new BassPro Shop) and they carry a lot of s/w. I am not convinced about their fish and fish care, doubt I will ever buy livestock from them. But for hardware and food items, test kits, etc it isn't bad. But I am spoiled for choice with two terrific Reef Stores near by (Aquarium Arts and About the Reef). Terrific thing is About the Reef has a biologist as the asst mgr.

I'm lucky to have great saltwater stores near me and a wonderful reef club as well. I've been in PetCo and it is hit or miss. I'd buy a fish from the one that is close to me but only because the dept manager there seems to know his stuff more than the average LFS employee. Still, I prefer to go to the other stores first.

Don't want to get off track, but I am trying to explore what Reef Clubs are in the area....unexplored gold mine I feel.

You know what, lets start a new thread about that.

Buying fish and taking them home 3 hours isn't bad. I live in Northern, VA, about 3 hours from Lancaster, PA and will go there every now and then to buy items and bring them back, this includes livestock. I've bought shrimp, a diamond goby, snails, hermits, all sorts of things, and they all are doing great, and survived the drive (plus traffic, oh and lunch). I figured I'd just put that out there as buying from them isn't a bad idea. I've had a lot of good experiences (and one bad). :)
