Hello all

First post

I've been reading posts for weeks and getting more discouraged about my upcoming adventure. I have aquired a 150 gallon predrilled to be set up as a reef tank but I want a Takashi Amano :)

Trying to get best info on substrate heaters.

a) Do you really need a temperature gauge on it? I would think that since it can't heat the whole tank and will likely have a seperate heater it should not really make a difference. I've seen some with and some without????

b) How to get around issue of nobody carrying one appropriate for 150 gallons.

Thats first question. Actually 2 but on one topic :)

Any other information regarding substrate heaters would be appreciated.

From everything I have read substrate heaters are a waste of money. Since you will need a couple of cannisters to filter that thing anyway, get a couple of inline heaters. They will do a good job and they will not be in the tank. If you are going with a sump kind of filtration just put the heaters in the sump.

Good luck, can not wait for pictures.

:iagree:
If you are going to use a sump, try to keep water turbulence to a minimum to reduce CO2 from gassing off.

Thanks for the info Plecosterone

Wow your tanks look great. Your planted tank is amazing. What does over driven lighting mean?
