View Full Version : Lost Fish?

Well have been at this about two months now.
I have a 46 gallon Bow front 80lbs of live sand and about 20 lbs of live rock. As for livestock I have one non-perc, one spiny urchin, 10 astrea(sp) snails, 5 dwarf red hermit crabs, two sand sifting starfish, Pacific cleaner shrimp, a small looking crab (hitch-hiker) and I recently lost my orange spotted goby?

He just was not there any more. I do have a lid on the tank but it was removed briefly for cleaning of the overflow and I think he may have escaped.
I have read that goby's may jump tank if they are housed in hostile tanks but he was getting along with everyone just fine.

My next addition was going to be Feather duster, or nassarius snails or a Firefish. Now that I lost my goby I would like to replace him but I am wondering if it is wise at this point until I know what happened?

Any advice would be wonderful.

Did you check around the tank to see if it might have jumped? Do you hear any loud clicking from the tank especially at night? Have you checked under the rocks to see if the goby's digging caused it to be trapped?

Did check around the tank no wetness but I do have a cat but she is acting normal? No loud clicking from the tank (why do you ask that)? and I have removed all of the rocks and raked the sand gently with my hands and still cannot locate it?:headshake2:

Asked about the clicking because some get mantis shrimp as a hitchiker with live rock. I hear about it especially with the Tampa Bay Saltwater rock.

Do you have an overflow and sump? If so did you check those?

And the cat wouldn't act abnormal if it ate most types of fish. ;-)

I had lost mine in the very bottom of one of my overflows. Do you have a sump? I would just check every possible place/area/hose. Are you sure it's lost? Mine would go "missing" for days and then just suddenly turn up out of nowhere.

One of my clowns has gone into my overflow twice so far and it is a pain to get her out becuase of the way my tank is constructed. First time it happened I couldn't think of where she would be. Good luck.

Thank you all so much. I share this tank with a roommate of mine and we both checked the overflow and cleaned the sponge. Tonight after reading the posts we checked again this time on a chair to look deep and a flashlight and guess what! "Peaches" our orange spotted goby was in the overflow box on the back of the tank. Unfortunately while trying to get him out of the box he jumped and hit the floor! I scooped him up and set him back into the tank. He looks pretty good so far. I did add some Stress coat to help him because he looked pretty stressed:)
