One of my colt corals has gotten so big that it is growing around the side of the rock it is on so I decided to frag it.I cut and used a toothpick and rubber bands to attach it to rock..My question is online it says to remove the tootchpick and rubber bands in two weeks is that about right? If the colt is not attached to the rock after two weeks should I glue or what..

It will likely attach in less than 2 weeks, but 2 weeks will give it plenty of time to get a strong grip on the rock. Soft corals in general are kind of hard to glue due to the way they slime, but it can be done.

Missc any chance of posting a piccie of your frag. I tried it ages ago but the coral kept ripping off the toothpick. I re-did it a couple of times and then gave up - I felt awful when I kept stabbing it!!!

OMG that is happening to me as well.I have two pieces that after I stuck them twice they are holding but for how long I have no idea..The other two piece are floating in the tank and now I don't know what to do.I don't wont then to die.I tried sticking them in rock but by morning they are in the sand again so I don't know what to do now.

Toule (the white wedding veil material) and a rubberband works well for holding most soft coral frags in place while they attach. This is most practical for smaller frags... definitely could be a challenge with really large pieces or a colony. I use this method all the time for attaching mushrooms, toadstools, xenia, kenya trees, zoas, and even the nepthea frag we got awhile back. IMO, it's much easier than the toothpick/rubberband method and doesn't require any further damage to the frag itself.

Thank you so much..went to walmart and bought some veil type material and I am going to reattach the coral here in just a few..Wish me luck..lol

The veil and rubber bands did the trick for me,I tried a few different things and had no luck, but this kept them on the rock and within a week they were attached.

I hope this works for me.I did a few of my mushrooms as well and used the veil. They are staying in place so it should work..thank you all so much..I will post a pic asap
