I want to buy Tahitian Moon Sand and I was wondering how many inches deep I need to fill the tank with, 1 inch? And how many lbs do you think I'd need for a 55G?
Thanks!

I'm looking at a 20lbs bag of Tahitian moon sand. Is 20lbs enough for a 55g?

You will need about 33lbs. for every inch of depth. Try this calculator out.

20 lbs was barely enough for my 20 gallon long. I would go with 2 bags as a minimum for a 55 gallon. 3 if your cichlids are the kind that like to rearrange the substrate a lot.

It took me 70lb of sand to get about 1.5-2" of coverage. I needed that extra sand cause i was doing plants.
