are people affraid of selling things? Or does using a different phrase increase your chance of ripping people off?

btw... thats for a tiny red ear slider...

how about this:

FOR SALE: RED EAR SLIDER $50 FIRM.

i agree with ya lol, and often times the "rehoming" fee is more then the actually cost

Yes...I'm all for adopting neglected animals and trying to place them in better homes, and I can see how for a larger animal like a dog or horse, you would want to recoup some of the money spent taking short term care of it. But come on, the idea is you get people to adopt rather than buy a pet outright, and if its 60% cheaper to go to PetCo, who would adopt? Although you could make the argument that someone who selects a pet based on price rather than needs, care, etc shouldn't have one in the first place. But that is just someone trying to make some bucks, IMO.

reason being is that red-eared sliders under a certain size (i believe it is 4 or 6") are illegal to SELL within most states. a rehoming fee, however, can get around the 'sale'.

I know its a law, but its very loosely enforced. If you know where to look, its easy to buy hatchling turtles. Besides, all you have to do is say, "they are not for sale as pets, only for educational or experimental purposes," and you can sell them under 4".
