Heard of em??

Looks like a miniture lionfish, but coloured different.
Who can tell me about em?

Are they sociable? How big(ish) do they get?

TIA!

One of the dwarf lion species, gets about 4-5" in length. More sedentary than almost any other lion...spends a lot of time sitting, especially during the day. More active at night. Not at all aggressive, but any smaller fish in the 3" range are on the menu, so pick only tankmates that are significantly too big to eat.

I'd have to say they are probably the most beautiful of the lions. Their colour is deep orange/red. Very sedentary. The only reason I didn't get one was they cost twice as much as a zebra lion.

Yeah i did notice they were almost double the price of the other Lionfish, even though the Volitans where 5-6 times bigger...

cool fish but I was told by the LFS that they are picky eaters and hard to feed at times. I got the fuzzy dwarf instead and he has been in the tank for a year and doing great. although I am still tempted to go back one of these days and find one of the Fu man chus to add to my tank!!

I have the same problem. I bought a zebra lion, but it is always on the back of my mind to go back and get the Fu man chu that I saw. That colour is not easy to forget.

Cool!
Heard of a 'deep water lionfish'?
Thats whats written on the tank of these lions at one of my LFS.
They look very similar to a normal Volitan to me!

Is probably the Miles Lion (Pterois mombasae). They are most commonly called that. If that is not them then look into the Antennata Lion (Pterois antennata). Fu Manchu Lions are generally kinda easy to geet feeding, they require live ghost shrimp at first but the hard part is weaning them to prepared foods. Hope this helps.

Thanks d00d.
The guy in the shop says they have trained it to eat frozen foods.

P.S. there was a brand new tank of Mono Sebaes down there the other day - very nice!

The Fu Manchu Lionfish, also known as the Twinspot Lionfish, or Ocellated Lionfish, has red, white, and black vertical stripes along the body. It has large, fan-like pectoral fins, and tall, quill-like dorsal fins. It is unique from other Lionfish because of the two, feeler-like appendages on the chin.

A 30 gallon or larger aquarium with numerous hiding places is suitable. It will hide while acclimating to its new environment. The top spines are venomous, causing reactions similar to a bee sting, only stronger.

The Fu Manchu Lionfish diet consists of meaty foods such as live shrimp (including ornamental shrimp), live fish, and sometimes, crustacean flesh.
