We just added a new fire scallop and a Cardinal Fish to our tank tonight. I was just wondering if anyone might know anything helpful for the scallop. From what we read it seems to be easy to care for but any tricks are welcome.
Thanks.
I know that the fire scallops typically starve in captivity and typically only last weeks maybe months. Sorry, it is one of those things I think is better off in the ocean. If you decide to keep it I believe they need frequent immersion feedings, daily. Best of luck to you.

You need to feed phytoplankton regularly to the keep the scallop alive. You need the good stuff like DT's, Phytofeast, or Liquid Life bioplankton. The freeze dried is OK, but you have to mix it in a blender to get particles small enough for the scallop to eat.
Good luck with the scallop... most survive less than 6 months in a tank. I also read online that their life cycle is only around 2 years, which means I won't be buying another one once the one we have passes.
Frequent feedings are needed (minimum 1x daily). It's best to do so in a separate container outside your tank to prevent a nutrient overload in your tank.

I had one and wouldn't get another. They have a tendency to hide behind rocks and starve (mine did).
Sorry it's probably not want you wanted to hear.

When I had one, we fed it some smelly green expensive stuff. I think is was photoplankton. Make sure you don't give it too much. The guy at the LFS said if I gave it too much, it would clog my filter.

Thank All for the feedback. I guess books don't tell you everything in this hobby.
Nothing really does in the hobby. I try to gather info from lots of sources than piece together what I think will work.
