View Full Version : My KFC Rant

:mad2: I ordered KFC for supper lastnight... the store we ordered from is KFC and Taco Bell in the same store, and we ordered a kids meal, 3 soft shell tacos, a small popcorn chicken, classic poutine combo, and of course we made sure to ask for dipping sauce for the popcorn chicken and sauce for the tacos.... 40 mins later the food shows u, and we of course have no dipping sauce nor any tacos sauce... I called the store to report the mishap and the lady said she would take my name and give me a credit for my next order, I told her this is just plain silly as it will not help me with my current hunger situation, she then reluctantly offered to send some dipping sauces to me if I paid for the delivery, I of course did not accept this offer and kept pushing, then she made a big deal of sending me the dipping sauces with free delivery, then I had to get nasty and continued to tell her she has to grow up and learn some responsibility and that I don't appreciate spending hard earned money on food that is not prepared properly, then having to call and argue with managment to have it corrected, and then be made to feel as if a favor is being done for me by having sauce delivered that I can put on my freeezing cold food... this finally helped her see the light and she agreed to replace all the food and have it redelivered at her expense with sauce.

Goes tos how that sadly, only those of us who are "squeky wheels" will get the greese. I think of course you do have to maintain a level of profesionalism, which if done properly can even tick them off even more by throwing plain and simple logic directly into their faces.... anywyas thats enough ranting for me, I just hate bad customer service.

Wow, first off, we don't even have the KFC=Taco Bell fast food restaurant even able to delivery to our homes...Wow, wish we did...Second, for her to even say she will send you the dipping sauces at your charge, not proper management reply, her first response should have been.."Oh, I am sorry about that, we will gladly replace all the food you ordered with the dippings and I will put the order together myself and personally deliver it to you so make sure everything is correct" that would have been the correct response from her...wow ...top priority..IT WAS THEIR MISTAKE TO FORGET THE DIPPINGS IN THE FIRST PLACE...

and third....KUDOS to you, for standing up for what you believe in and getting her to see the mistake they made...and at what cost did she have to pay...she still got paid for delivering the food from her company....You are a trooper...great job, and I hate bad customer service too...

yikes, guys, come on. . . do you never have bad days at work or make a mistake on the job? this is two threads now ranting about how horrible food service people are. your order might have been the only mistake they made all day. you see them once, they see hundreds of "you" every shift. this is seriously depressing. how about we discuss bad customers and you can get a view of what we see every day on the job-

the ones who steal tea bags, splenda, and sugar packets

the ones who ask ridiculous questions like, "what color paint is the ceiling" and "what do they sell at that store across the street" (the store is World of Clothing, by the way) and "is there air-conditioning for the tables outside?"

the ones who insist on stopping you and having a conversation while your arms are loaded down with a 4-top table worth of dirty dishes

the ones who add the tips incorrectly on their credit card receipts so that you get stiffed (if it doesn't add up, you can't take the money)

the ones who call during the rush and want you to list every sandwich, salad, bread, and dessert you sell, so when they show up with 7 friends and no reservation, they know what they want. except in the time it takes for them to get a table (and whine about how there is such a long wait), they forgot what they wanted and have to start all over.

the ones who a. complain if food is not fresh (made that morning) and b. complain when we run out of something that they wanted. if you want it fresh, we have to make it that day. in order to keep it fresh, we don't make more than we sell, on average. if we don't run out of it, we have to serve it the next day. if we are throwing away bowls of chicken and tuna and pasta every day, we will go out of business.

the ones who want one piece of cake split 4 or even 6 ways.

and then they each want to pay for 1/4 of it.

the ones who, with their amazing sense of perception, manage to find the only table in the cafe that isn't clean, and sit there, then complain about it while surrounded by clean, empty tables.

the ones who, when the doors are open and the lights are on, and the signs say OPEN, ask when you open.

the ones who, when the lights are off and the doors are closed, and the signs say CLOSED, ask if we are still open.

when we say that we are closed, they want to know if they can just get something to go.

the ones who, after living all their lives in America, need you to go over their reciept with them twice because it seemed too high. they forgot about tax.

the ones who want water (free) with 6 or 7 lemons on the side - because they like to make their own lemonade.

the ones who want 3/4 unsweetened tea with 1/4 sweet tea. . . and then complain about it. the sugar and splenda are there so you can do it up the way you like it. i am not you, and i am not able to taste your drink to see if it is "just right".

the ones who complain because we don't carry "their brand" of mayo or mustard or ketchup. bring your own, eat at home, or shut up and like it.

the ones who complain about waiting for food. if you are in a hurry, don't make reservations for 20 at noon at a place with 2 waitresses and one cook. also, do not get in line behind 15 other people to place your order if you have to be back at work in 30 minutes. we are people, not magic.

the ones who drink hot tea in the summertime and then ask if we can turn the a.c. up because they feel a little hot.

the ones who share a drink. don't expect refills.

the ones who start moving tables around without asking someone first

Congrats wataugachicken! I worked in retail/food service for a few years and HATED how inconsiderate and rude so many people can be. It is, I think, the biggest problem in our society. ~brandy

I can add one more revolting BAD CUSTOMER to Watatgachicken said...I have been a server now for a little under 4 years...and this one gets me the most....THE COOK WEARS A HAIRNET OR IS EITHER HAS A BALD OR SHAVEN HEAD AND STILL WEARS A HAIR CAP ALSO...along with the hairnet...I put in the order for the food, it takes 5-10 minutes for the food to get done...I always inspect the food and plates for unwanted stuff, like hair, dried food on the plate, etc, etc,...okay food looks really good...nothing out of the ordinary...run food to the table....table 36 customer proceeds to eat the food...(Denny's, where I work, MEATLOVERS SCRAMBLE)....I am getting busy with other tables...walk over to 36 table make sure everything is well sooo far...yes they say...pancakes are gone, and so are hashbrowns, still alittle left of the Meatlovers scramble, I see it for myself...I proceed to bev another table....okay then all of a sudden table 36 flags me down,,,I walk over, and the young guy says there is a hair in his food...:headshake2: :mad2:  :wall: ..and he says he would like a new one made...okay where did the hair come from...hhhmmm...I knew right away it came from him...it was laying right on top of the food...makes me wonder...so why would someone go thru all the trouble to eat everything he ordered and then say (mind you there was only 2 bites left of ALL of his food) and say there is a hair in his food...I ask the cook to remake it...COOK HAS SHAVEN HEAD AND SO DOES THE OTHER COOK and still with caps on...well it is remade and then the customer says he dont want it anymore...so I tell manager and it is voided...and after all the trouble I went through, saying sorry and the such...no tip..welll that part I dont care about....but the hair thing come on....and for all the rest of the stuff that WATA said ,OMG...so true so true so true...I hear and see that stuff everyday...man what is up with this world...and customers letting their kids run all around the restaurant when we are carrying heavy trays of food...I would like to dump it on them half the time...and letting their kids make messes around the whole restaurant...man that is another thread starter...:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :mad2: :headshake2:

I agree with what your saying about bad customers, I used to work at Subway when I was in high school... not just anyway subway... a subway that had a bar on both sides of it and one across the street. And Guess who worked the closing shift every Friday and Saturday night, good ole me. And yes I dealt with some wild people, even one guy who came in and said he didnt want a Sandwhich but would pay me $20 If I just gave him some cold cut meat, a guy jumping over the counter at me who I had to hit with a bat, another guy threatening to kill me whom the police later found with a knife on him, but no matter what, if someone came in and said their order was made wrong, or the bread wasnt fresh, or anything else, it was always replaced, and with a smile and apology.

I respected the fact that those people had to go and work for probably an hour to buy a $10 sub, and that they deserved to get exactly what they wanted, after all they chose to come to that store for a reason, not to get tomatoes when they didnt want tomatoes, they had an exact craving and were paying me to make it.

In my rant I was not of course complaining that KFC made a mistake on my order, I wouldn't write up a post over something so insignificant that happens daily, my rant was in regaurds to how the manager responded when I reported the complaint... I mean, I had a rough day that day, I came home, I did not feel like cooking, I decided to give KFC some of my hard earned money in exchange for some of their food, in my opinion they didn't hold up their end of the bargain by not providing me with the requested materials to eat my food, and then to go further and try to make me settle for a credit, meaning I would of had to turn around and cook some food after wasting $30 to not have to cook, and then to offer to charge me $7 to get the sauce they forgot delivered to put onto cold food?? This is 100% dispicable, rude, irresponsible and just plain insane. This woman should not only not be working in a position like this, but I don't know if she should even be allowed outside on her own.

And, if she was having a bad day.... guess what? I didn't contribute to it, therefore it should not be taken out on me. As mentioned above I worked at Subway, also worked in various Call Center for 5 years, some dealing with peoples vacations, life insurance, coffee makers, internet tech support... how would you, a person working in the food industry making just enough to get by, calls me working at the internet tech line for your provider, your upset cus you had a long day at work and just wanted to check your hotmail, and your connection isnt working.... how would you feel if I was a total ***** to you? Having worked both industries, you get far more "interesting" people calling for internet tech help, I could fill 10 pages with weird calls, but I won't, not here.

Anyways, my point is, yes you may deal with alot of people during a shift, but everyone should receive the same respect and attention as any other, and above all they should be provided with exactly what they ordered, because that is why they chose to spend their money there, making it possible for your owner/manager to give you a paycheck.

Selah.

A local (and VERY gross) pizza joint, that we ordered from a couple times many years ago screwed up one of our orders to the point of actually forgetting one of the pizzas, and the bottle of pop i was suposed to get.

so I call them, and tell them what happened, pass the phone to the delivery guy, and basically sorted the situation without much hassle at all. I was also given $7 off, because it was the driver who forgot the stuff at the store.
the guy leaves and comes back in about 25 mins with the rest of the stuff, and my money.

all was good, though I was slighty ticked about the wait, and the whole situation at hand, but then the driver has the stones to say "thats more than I make" as he is handing me the money.

to which I replied "if you had done your ******* job properly then we wouldnt be doing this right now.

Ive never ordered from them again.

All that was wrong was you didn't have dipping sauces? You didn't actually eat the food that they delivered did you? From years of working in food service, I can tell you that you probably didn't want to do that. I saw all kinds of things being done to food (for the record I never did anything to anyone's food other than maybe wrapping someone's sammich a little too tightly). Have you seen the movie Waiting? You need to. Trust me...never send food back or ask for a new meal. I don't. I was once served shrimp that tasted like it was packed in salt but I didn't send it back. I didn't want someone else's spit/sneeze/whatever in my tummy.

Food service workers are human and do err on occasion. A lot of times it IS the customers fault. There was this one customer who when he made his order way too confusing (it was for a simple order but the way he ordered it was complicated). Of course he got the wrong stuff b/c we made him what he ordered and I had to take his $$ and of course, i was so sick of dealing with this man everyday so I am sure I gave him an attitude. One day he asked me what problem I had with him and I told him that he didn't know how to order his food and that's why he got the wrong stuff everyday and it wasn't our fault. He then asked me how he should order and I told him and from then on out he ordered the way I told him and he consistently got the correct food. For the next 8 or so years we were totally friendly and cool and he became one of my favorites.

I agree with the above poster wataugachicken. Customers make a ton of silly demands. For instance, I worked at a restaurant called Tim Horton's famous for it's coffee and donuts. One customer actually asked for 1/16 teaspoon of sugar! Come on! When the lo-carb craze was in full thrust that is when customers really became annoying. We have no lo-carb anything. Another thing I hate is when someone would come in the drive-thru on their cell phone and would act like you were out of line for askign them a ?? regarding their order. My owner was really cool and he would kick anyone out that was a complete pain or rude to us. He never would have delivered fresh food b/c of lack of sauce. No way (plus he couldn't have sent someone else to do it b/c his insurance doesn't cover deliveries and if one of the crew got in an accident he could be subject to suit). He didn't have to we were/are one of the busiest stores in the city. I also hated it when customers would make their children order their food or pay for their food with their nasty little booger crusted hands and their shaky grasp of the English language...some people don't like kids and don't think they are cute and will not tell you they are cute if you force them to interact with them. Or when customers wait in a long drive-thru line, get up to the window and THEN ask their passengers/kids what they want (even when they come there everyday). When I go to a DT I know exactly what I want and if I don't I wing it. I am not picky. Or those customers who eat half the food and THEN complain about it and want a new sandwich/donut/whatever. If it was that bad you shouldn't have eaten 1/2 of it. With the exception of a few customers that we would in no way satisfy no matter how hard we tried, our service was definitely above par.

I made up the following motto (in jest): Don't be rude, we serve your food

It was only dipping sauce. I get mad too, but I don't don't flip out over condiments (it's not worth eating a booger or a lugie over). But if you are having a bad day then all bets are off. I get mad at our local McDonald's because they consistently mess up my order (and the whole town's) it's like a Roullette game to see if you can get the right stuff. I usually end up eating it anyways and pout for like 10 minutes and swear I'll never go back.

BTW...I don't eat KFC anyways b/c I don't like they way that they reportedly treat their chickens.

Yes I have seen the movie waiting, and yes it is funny in concept, but the idea that people actual do that is disgusting. If I am going to pay their god **** wages by buying food from the store they work at, they should not only make my food the way I order it, but thank me and kiss my *** from time to time.... keep in mind if it wasn't for people like me who spent money there they wouldnt have a job. So this nonesense about never sending your food back?? You have to be kidding me, and fi your so worried about it, I guess next time not only will I demand my food be replaced but I will also demand the delivery driver pick me up, take me to the store, have the food prepared in front of my face, then the food and myself delivered back home.

I seriously can not beleive that you think it is wrong to complain about something you paid for that is incorrectly made. If you bought a large t-shirt and got home and realised it was a small, are you gonna just suck it up and throw the shirt away??? No your not, its the same **** thing, money is money, I don;t give it out for free, you have to earn it.

I understand your point. I am not bashing you I am just saying that I am overly paranoid b/c I have seen what can happen and have heard horror stories from people who have worked in other places. Sorry if it came off the wrong way...I have too much pent up frustrations after 9 years of serving food. :) I absolutely don't think it's wrong to complain about food/service that you recieve that's wrong. I do it myself sometimes. I just don't ask for the food to be replaced...that's my right and it's your right to want it replaced and to get it replaced.

But your analogy about clothes isn't my case. I buy clothes all of the time and find out I don't like them later. I never return clothes...it takes way too much time/energy to do so. I just give them to goodwill or something. I do it way too often I admit...but things look much better at a store and with gas the way it is to drive to return something costs just about as much.

So...I am not against what you did in any way, just dishing out my experiences in the restaurant industry (which thank goodness I am in no longer).

I know it's gross. That's why I never did anything about it. But I couldn't complain or say anything b/c it was my managers/supervisors that were doing it most of the time. And our restaurant was tame in comparison to some of the things I have seen done on those hidden camera shows. Have you ever seen those? They make you never want to eat out ever again.

Yes ive seen waiting, i also worked in foodservice for the past 5 years.

more than half of the "horror" stories are made up so people actually wont complain about the food, and more often than not, its the servers doing stuff to your food, not the cooks.

My worst job ever was working in fast food. And yes, if the manager wasn't around, the cooks would pick up meat that they dropped on the floor and put it back on the grill. It's not a myth.

This is the first time I've ever heard of KFC delivery. We don't eat at KFC ever since my husband saw a news report about how the chickens are killed, but if we did, delivery would be such a luxury. Around here the only thing you can get delivered is pizza. Or chinese food from a restaurant which requires a minimum order of $25.

Yeah you can get pretty much anything deleivered here, I think most of the places all use 1 or 2 delivery places, which would explain the $7 charge for delivery.

I agree, I'd go to prison if I caught someone tampering with my food. I look at as a personal attack on me...especially if it can harm me or make me sick in some way. I'd have to shove their head down the toilet and flush it a few times.

Let's add a tad to the bad customer list. Bad cooks is a whole other thread...

Customer comes in every day. For a month. Each time after the food in eaten, the customer bitterly complains to the manager untill the food is comped. Nice to say, after the third day, no more comped food, but they continuted to eat there and pull the same stunt for the next three and a half weeks.

Customer's kids and buffets. Used to have a family that would come in, get the sunday brunch buffet, and the three children would proceed to pick out every scrap of pineapple from the fruit display. That's pineapple for 70... Then they would ask when the next fruit display was going to be set out. Oh.. the kids don't actually eat pinapple. They just liked the neat fruit carvings I did, and wanted to make sure they saw all of them.

People with severe, life threatening alergies, who simply have no idea what kinds of food have the danger ingredient. If you're allergic to peanuts, and go into titanic convulsions when you ingest them, you might wanna learn to avoid tahini. At least this one lived to return... and ordered pesto, with pine nuts...

Customers who want it done "just the way I like it, perfectly". And do not know how they like it. A rare steak is red and cool in the middle. A well done steak is cooked brown completely through. When you order a steak that costs 27 bucks, well done, but you like rare steak, it really hurts my food cost to make you another one. Or three.

I can't grill you a chicken breast rare. I don't care who makes it that way for you at some other place. Are you insane? Or just stupid?

Ditto for pork. How did you live to be as old as you are eating like you want to?

The state of north carolina requires all ground beef hamburgers to be cooked medium well or above. This is because they cannot guarentee the saftey of the ground beef. I can't either, and I'm not gonna do it. Live with this.

That's not my hair in your food. My hair is brown, and short and covered. Your hair is three feet long, and blonde. The hair in your food is three feet long and blonde. Don't complain because you shed like a wookie in heat.

You spend your hard earned money here, and I try my best to create a meal that makes you happy. I did'nt grow up in eastern slovenia with your grandmother, and I don't know how to make that special dish she used to fix out of stray dogs.

I've never spat in someone's food, nor any other thing that could take away from it's quality. This plate is sacred. It's my reputation and my trade and my passion, right here between the fork and the knife. I reserve the right to refuse service, because in some cases, you're not worth spending my art.

and don't forget the party of 10 who comes in every Sunday morning (I will leave out the ages) and order 2 breakfasts from the menu and split the 2 among 10 people, and yet they have 10 coffees and make you run rampant for at least 8-12 cups more coffee..

Everything Malefic said is also true,,,,alot of people at the place I work at complain everytime they come in and yet keep coming back...go figure that one out....all of the regulars I have, they always joke about how the service was great, but the server was mean (me)...and I always tell them wait till next time...man, it always cracks them up...and then I tell them if they dont like the service go to the other food place 2 miles away...but they always come back for more...those are the ones I persoanlly like...the old timers, the ones we all know by name...HEY, NORM..and they always sit at their same table...and we love em none the less...now those people make my day...happy happy joy joy...:)

On a side note...

Extra Tasty Crispy Chicken

1 whole frying chicken, cut up
6-8 cups vegetable oil

Marinade
4 cups water
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon MSG (see Tidbits)

Coating
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
3/4 teaspoon MSG

1. Trim any excess skin and fat from the chicken pieces. Preheat the oil in a deep-fryer to 350 degrees.

2. Combine the water, salt and MSG for the marinade in a large bowl. Add the chicken to the bowl and let it sit for 20 minutes. Turn the chicken a couple times as it marinates.

3. Combine the beaten egg and milk in a medium bowl. In another medium bowl, combine the remaining coating ingredients (flour, salt, pepper and MSG).

4. When the chicken has marinated, transfer each piece to paper towels so that excess liquid can drain off. Working with one piece at a time, first coat the chicken with the dry flour mixture, then the egg and milk mixture, and then back into the flour. Be sure that each piece is coated very generously. Stack the chicken on a plate or cookie sheet until each piece has been coated.

5. Drop the chicken, one piece at a time into the hot oil. Fry half of the chicken at a time (4 pieces) for 12-15 minutes, or until it is golden brown. You should be sure to stir the chicken around halfway through the cooking time so that each piece cooks evenly.

6. Remove the chicken to a rack or towels to drain for about 5 minutes before eating.

Serves 3-4 (8 pieces of chicken).
