View Full Version : When to make CO2 adjustments?

OK - I managed to set up my new pressurized CO2 system earlier today without blowing myself up. So far so good!! I have 1bps going into the tank right now.

When should I start testing the pH? How often to test?

How long should I let it run before making adjustments to the bps?

Right now I'm just running it through a Red Sea power diffuser until I decide on a reactor. The bubbles are flowing up past the output of my Fluval, so I'm getting some decent circulation.

I haven't done this in a long time but just to be safe about it I'd say let the CO2 percolate at 1bbs for a day then test pH and KH once a day adjusting the bubble count each day until you find your target level (anywhere between 15 - 30ppm). I don't think it'll take more than three or four days.

I have adjusted my CO2 all over the scale and it really doesn't seem to bother the fish. My tap water has a dKH of around 4.0 so it's well buffered.

Once you have an idea what the bubble count should be then you really shouldn't have to test pH or KH ever again. Some people are fanatical about testing their water parameters but I don't think these people do any better than those who... in my best Ron Popeil... "Set it and forget it!".

Of course that's just my very fabulous and reasonably priced opinion.

i think co2 is non flammable so you dont have to worry about blowing up lol

ever hour or two i would test it and go from there.
