I want to set up a Quarantine tank over the weekend.
Do i need all the usual things like live rock, sand etc etc?
Or can i get away with just putting in the salt water and heater with a powerhead?

Thanks.
Liz.

i would not have sand or rock in a QT tank as it is going to give a place for potential paracites to live from newly quarantined fish....some simple pvc pipe is all that is required for the tank....all you need is somewhere for the fish to hide...and simple pvc piping is ideal....

I agree with Niko, I have nothing in my QT apart from a powerhead and heater (and of course water!!). The way I look at it is worse scenario - if you ever need to use copper it'll cling to any rock you have in there and is virually impossible to remove. Whereas if you have just the basics they can always be rinsed with a white vinegar solution. My Tang was in my QT (lying on the bottom for the first week) and after 2 weeks was flying around again

I also like to use the pvc; avoid anything that can absorb medications or harbor parasites. I use a HOT filter and keep a spare chunk of the foam media in the sump of my DT; always ready and charged with bacteria. They can be re-used or tossed, depending on what went on in the QT>
