Ok brief story first, I have had my Big Male FireMouth and Female FireMouth for about 3 1/2 years now. They have spawned twice during this time, both times they have spawned in the past they have done the little circle eachother, flailing the gills at eachother stuff.

Well here we again, with the flailing of the gills, and the circling of eachother. The Big Male has been terrorizing the piece of slate rock i have in the tank, he's been cleaning it non stop all morning long. The female who has been somewhat quiet, is now terroring the Small Male FireMouth and the Green Terror(who thinks he owns the tank). So thus I'm thinking they are getting ready to spawn for the 3rd time, since they have done this exact stuff in the past. I really hope they do spawn, I will be sure to take pics for everyone if they do.

Congrats. Mine spawned recently but ate all the fry. They seem to be getting ready to spawn again as well, so I'm hoping that they'll have another go soon. When courting do yours beat each other up at all? My female ends up with mildly torn fins during the lead up to spawning.

My pair have a rocky relationship! A year ago they were digging pits all over the place, but no spawns. Did a bit of aquascaping and the female became dominant and had the male in a corner. Re-scaped and added a couple of rubberlips, seems to have re-kindled the bond, as after every water change a little pit gets dug near the females log. Still waiting though....

Haven't seen much lip locking though, they just go around together until the females had enough, and nudges him and off he scoots.

Yeah my female when they spawn gets mildly beaten up. Nothing to major. So far no eggs, but I hope they do spawn. They are great parents, I have yet to see them turn on their fry. I use to have a breeding pair of Jack Dempsey's who would lay so many eggs, and then turn on the fry after about 3 weeks.
