I can't get my temp to stay at 78 dgrees no matter what. I have a 55G tank with 75lbs of liverock, no fish, I have mushroom coral, and frogspawn in the tank. What can I do to get my temp the same no matter what time of the day it is? I have a 200watt heater on the tank too. Any suggestions would be great, because I really don't what my corals to die. Thanks
Chiller. Some people run fans on the top of the water, which increases evaporation. My tank goes up to 80 from 78 on very bad days, but everything seems fine.
Small fans over the top of my150g tank cooled it 3-4 degrees.Bought them at wallmart for $8 a piece. They are made by Honeywell,8",and they set on flat surface or will mount on wall.It got to 82 this summer and I could not invest another 6-$700 for a chiller,Fans have got it down to a steady 78,I only run them when the lights are on.2-400w and 2-250w lights put out a lot of heat and I had to do something fast. They work great for me.
house was at 90 tank temp climbing..checked the heaters both off I froze water in bottles and placed them on the returnside of my refugium..they brought the temp down a few degrees.
adding fans a couple more degrees..evaporation seems to help but I had to replace almost 1 g per day.
today we are in the upper 70's low 80's..I'm breathing a sigh of relief.
my tank hit over 85 but the frogspawn seems to have done ok.
