Im thinking about trading in my drums and starting either electric guitar or bass.... which would you reccomend??

holy molie i cant spell!!! :)

I would say electric but I don't play guitar.
P.S. I like you avatar...alot.

Well Mud...You have to remember that your gonna need an amp to hear the electric guitar. Those Amps cost alot. I beleive the bass will need one to I'm not sure. Stick with the bass IMO.

Bass is easier, only 4 strings...unless you're les claypool and play like a 7 string bass. I've been playing bass for probably 10 years now, and I like it a long. I know like 2 guitar chords too.

Depends on what you think you'd like playing more.

The reason i like guitar more is cause it's easier to play when you're alone and not jamming with your buddies. you can easily strum to chords, or learn songs on your own, playing the electric unplugged. In my opinion, playing bass is much more fun when you got people to play with, adding to the sound.

Oh and Sploke, Les Claypool is freaken amazing !

I'm going to go on a bit of a tangent to start. The notes on a stand-up bass are spaced out a lot farther than they are on the other classical stringed instruments. Way back when the earth was flat and I was in high school everyone who played the things had massive monkey hands.

Now I didn't play the bass, I played cello, so I can't directly compare. However I do feel like I wish I had a nice pair of massive monkey hands whenever I try to relive my angsty high schooler days and I pick up my electric bass.

Assuming the frets are spaced differently on the two guitars (which they very well may be) you probably would be well served by just picking the things up and seeing how well your hands fit.

If you're looking for gigs, stay w/ drums or bass. Guitarists are a dime a dozen and many of them are pretty good. There's a lot less competition for drummers & bass players.

If you want to play for your own pleasure or do solo stuff, go guitar.

I sit there and jam out by myself way more than i jam with others...possibly because i don't know too many people to jam with but whatever. In the beginning its kind of weird, playing a bass alone, but after you pick it up a bit it gets a lot more fun. And when that gets old, my mp3 player is the best lead guitarist ever.
