What's the best way to avoid syphoning up my new baby shrimp that I can't even see? I was thinking putting pantyhose over the syphon?
Anybody else have any ideas?

are you talking about during gravel vacs, or just in a regular siphon? if just a regular siphon, pantyhose will work. as for gravel vacs, good luck.

Well, I prefer to do a gravel vac every time I do a pwc but the fella I bought the shrimp from said that they would be full grown in a month +/- so I thought maybe I could skip vacing for a few pwc. Not ideal I know but I don't want to take the chance of losing the little guys and the tank is very lightly stocked right now.
I use a python so they'd go right down the drain:eek3:

It's a 20g. I hadn't thought of a mesh divider. But how would I know if I have the shrimp on the correct side since I can't see them?

are there fish in the tank?

how long have the babies been free swimming?

what kind of shrimp?

Yes, a couple zebra danios and some apple snails and a cory(yes I'm getting him company). They've been free swimming for about five days. Cherry shrimp.

I would get a cheap gravel vac from walmart (their like 5 bucks) their very weak and you could take your time as it not powerful at all, and put the tube into a bucket, so in case you do get one, hell be in the bucket =D I got the smallest one they had for my 20 gallon, and when I got a new one with a larger pipe thing, I was surprised to realize how weak my little one was, but I use that one because I have more time to get more waste without all the water coming out fast like on my newer big one. With my bigger one, theirs still waste left when my buckets full of water, forcing to do another bucket worth!
