Was woken at 6am thismorning to the sound of water hitting the carpet in my loungeroom.
Rushed out to find a crack from bottom to top right in the middle of my 6foot tank, and water pouring out on the ground everywhere...

The stand my tank was on warped, and the lack of support for the middle of the tank meant it cracked all the way from the bottom to the top.
I could have cried.
Luckily i had a spare 2 foot tank, and as i didnt have many inhabitants yet, i cleaned up the tank and transferred everything and everyone into that.
Ended up with a bit more than 20 gallons of water on the floor.
(Hint - steam cleaners are great to clean this up).

Thought id share my pain...

:( :( :( :(

Did you have a layer of styrofoam between the tank and stand? Also, if it is the stand at fault I'd take this up with the pet store you bought it from. They should be held responsible if it lacks support.

I'm sorry to hear about that. My piece 'o' crap SeaClown just leaked for the second time, but that was about 2 gallons. Still sucks (I have returned it). I have a question though for Kit. What is this styrofoam layer you speak of? I've never heard of using this for stands.

Well Vodoo, you can use a small styrofoam layer, aor a mat or something to lay in between your tank and stand so it will sink into the layer, and be even for sure.

Wow! That sounds just terrible-You are very fortunate to have that extra tank! Keep it up and don't get discouraged! Everything will work out just great :)

Yeah i had the styrofoam under it - i know this from my freshwater experience. The stand is actually a cabanet given to me by the guy i brought the tank from. He's a guy i work with so i cant really take it back.

But i just found out theres a store having a sale on and their prices look good so im off today to look at a 4 foot tank!
The 2foot is just too small for these guys.

My gf is NOT happy lol...

Been there. I put about 10-15 gallons on the floor and bailed about 60 into the bathtub when a reverse siphon started a massive flood out of the sump. Count yourself lucky that you don't have any livestock yet - I had massive losses from that one.
