I have been looking for PP locally (can’t see paying $25 for a hazard fee) and have found some at a major retailer’s water conditioning department. Can I use this PP to treat my tanks?

You just want to treat your tank? Are you treating for something specific? PP is a strong oxidizer and has been used for various ailments. Try searching here at AC, wetmanNY posted a thread concerning PP a while back (couple months?).

Did you read all about it at the Skeptical Aquarist? http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/health/potper.shtml

There is also this site (aimed more at koi ponds) http://cyberfins.minidns.net/articles/docc/doccppp.shtml

I've only used it for equipment cleaning and to treat plants -quoting- Mix at 10 mg/liter of water for a 10-minute soak, or use “Clear Water” from Jungle Products according to directions. Will kill bacteria and pathogens.

I am treating the tank for a Trichodina and floating algae. I have been on wetman's web site and others. The question is can I use the PP from the retail store to treat the tank?
