I picked up some fish yesterday and after a nice slow acclimation I released the in the tank and suddenly the tank felt fully stocked. It's active and colorful, but there's some room for the fish to grow. The congos are still the centerpiece, but that could change as the angel and gourami grow.
knock on wood the new fish will settle in well. My water parameters are good and they looked very healthy in the shop.
I picked up 4 GBRs. I spent nearly two hours trickling water in before I released them. The clerk at the store was terrific at catching them with as little stress as possible, spent a good bit of time talking to me about pH and gave good advice on the acclimation process. They're looking fine this morning.
And I succumbed to a black angelfish. I'd been holding out for a veil tail blonde, but this guy is a beauty and I couldn't resist. I'll take some pictures soon.
I'm not totally done with the tank of course. I want to upgrade from a single light strip to more light and at that point add some live plants, though I don't believe I want to go to a full planted tank set up. And now I can watch the juvies-the angel and the gourami, grow up.
I would like another pearl gourami at some point, but they have been difficult to find. I bought three skinny ones last month-the first I'd seen in months of looking, and two died the first night I had them. The third has since fattened up-I didn't realize how thin they were until I saw how quickly this one filled out. So, one day, if I can ever find another, if it's healthy and if I can tell which sex I already have, I'd like to get a second.
