I woke up this morning to see my new Betta all dried up in the floor! I was really getting attached to him too! Poor little guy :(
Other than a ropefish, which are famous for escaping, I've never had a fish jump out before. Guess I need to spend a day sealing up my tank tops a bit better.

yeah, make sure there are no cracks of at least 1-2" around anything on your hood

Sorry to hear about your betta. I had that happen to me once, many years ago. My very first CAE, Sam I, was doing the crispy crunch impression on the floor. So sad.
Just the other day I heard horrible splashing from my tank. I only have small fish, but it sounded like a trout in there. I figured it was either the cat falling in or probably Sam VI. The basement was dark, when I turned on the light, all fish were present and accounted for (and no cat swimming in tank) but the top of the canopy and wall were absolutely soaked.

I know the feeling, just the other day I walked around like a real loafer wondering where a cardinal tetra had gotten to and low and behold I eventually found it kissing the sole of my shoe. i didn't feel too smart or happy after the discovery.

I've only had one fish jump out... a 1.5 inch neon tetra. I was doing some tank cleaning and found the potato-chip looking fish next to the tank.

:(
That bad news.
My bettas have never been covered - and they have never jumped on me. Must be lucky i guess..

Ghost shrimp are good canidates to end up on the floor. They'll flip outta the tank if there are fish chasing them very easily. I've also had a Ropefish incident.. it managed to get the gaurd off of my HOB filters uptake tube and swam inside of it only to be trapped and die there :( I put plastic zip ties on the guards now just in case.
