I love them! If I had a pond, I would love knowing wild animals made it a home too =) Although, some people do not like dealing with thousand of toad eggs if their fish dont eat them! lol

I found a a cheap trick that works to fight green water. Add Perlon (aquarium poly filter floss) to your mechanical filter. Take a large swab and switch it every day. It catches the tiny particulate that makes up the green water (even fine sponges don't catch it). A 1lb bag costs about $2 at any fish store.
As to pond visitors, I have had swallows come and dive bomb my pond (I believe they are barn swallows).

Have you seen the American toads yet this year? They've already finished breeding down here, but I'm a good ways south of you. Great shots, by the way.

toads are naturally lazy.i usually get a big european toad that won't move.hankn great pics of the swallows,i might get them when i build my pond

Thanks all! I'm not fighting green water right now, although I do have a little algea growth on the pond liner. I have about 3x more water hyacinths and some water lettuce and iris'...No sign of anymore racoons either LOL :headbang2:
