OH man, this is something VERY unexpected for me...
My two Cons (who I thought were both males) ended up being male/female and they spawned. I found it weird that they were being so aggressive to their fellow tank makes to include some Mbuna cichlids...well tonight I peeked into a corner where the Cons hang out and what do I see, a buttload of small fry swimming around!
So now what?! I don't think I want to be in the business of breeding cons...I know nothing of the process! :help:

let nature take it's course. You will probably end up with between 0 - 10% of the fry. unless you have really good hiding places, in which case you might get 25%

I've been reading the the various threads here and on another forum and its telling me that if I just leave the fry they'll be food for the parents when they're ready to re-spawn?

Well - it depends on why you are (intentionally or not) breeding them to keep. We just let nature take it's course because we already have so many and are not quite ready to set up another cichlid tank yet (soon, but not yet.) The one's that survive will we strong, fast, and smart, and better able to survive with the big fish when they come out of hiding finally.

Thats the thing, Cons are the rabbits of the cichlid world my friend. they spawn like crazy. The thing with cons is they are able to change their sex, what i mean by this is if you get 2 males, and they hang out together alot, more than likely one will turn female. I've seen it happen to cons ive had in the past.

Hermaphroditic convict cichlids are rare and it should not be said that it will more than likely happen.
