would java moss thrive in a 2 gallon betta tank w/0 any filtration?
It should but you have to prune them if they try to take over the whole structure.:)

It does pretty well in my 1g betta bowl. It spreads out slowly for me therethough, but it also gets a decent amount of light at my work, so that may slow the growth a bit. A lot of folks say their Java moss grows a little better in low light.
Oh, and the thinner you keep it initially, the better it tends to grow. So just try to avoid clumpy masses of it.

at lest it would give some bio filtration for the betta.
