(first time) and i forgot to mask of the edges so the silicone didn't spread. but now I have nice new siliconed edges but the silicone smeard about and 1/1.5 over the corners! my question is...would it be ok to take a razor blade and scrap the excess 1/1.5 of silicone off the edges? or would that jeopardize the integrity of that silicone...i don't think it would but some of you might know better.

and I rather not have to scrap all the silicone off and redo the whole procedure!

....

I have re siliconed a tank before and it wasent the best idea for me to do. When you remove silicone from a base then re apply it in the same surface area it tends to lose bonding quickly. Unless you scraped, sanded, razored, cleaned like a mother then alas cleaned with alcohol im not too sure how good it will hold. Its best to just cut off the excess the manufacturer of the tank had. It would be ok to cut that excess of but make sure you fill the tank up fully and work with cutting. So you know not only while your working if there is a leak but when you go to bed overnight you can see if there pressure has made any new pathways of leakage... Hope this helps :)

I have pumped thousands of tubes out so my tanks look better than the factory tanks;) but I think you could cut it back but must be carefull when cleaning thereafter.
