hello all:)
im in the process of cycling a 50 gallon salt water tank (my first tank) with 40 pounds of live rock and two blue damsels.

once cycled the tank will be the home of a bimac octopus :D
-named fluffy the kraken-

im mainly here to look at all your pretty tank pictures but of course i will also ask question and share any interesting aquarium based stories i have.

Welcome to the forum.

Should be an interesting tank.

I would avoid cycling with the damsels, you could use a raw shrimp and shouldn't take long to get the tank cycled. Just a suggestion.

Good luck.
Yuri.

Welcome to AC!

I would agree on the damsels being taken out, and a non-living source of ammonia used..Also, if they are left in, there is also the big possbility that they will get eaten...Keep the tank well sealed to save a houdini act happening...Such a beautifull creature to have. Although i dont believe they should be housed in an aquarium, i wish you good luck, and look forward to seeing all the progress you make with the octo...

Enjoy the site and all it has to offer..

i probably should have come to this forum before putting damsels in :/ one of them is doing fine but it harassed the smaller to the point were it no longer seems able to swim :( im thinking ill take the stong one back to the store tommarow

would freezing the week one be more humane than letting it die in the tank?
its still alive but doesn't move except to breath and appears to have a wound...i hate to think of it suffering

Oh, and btw, I've read that octopus only last a few months if you don't have them spayed/neutered? Just thinking that you might wanna reconsider the octopus...

rest assured i have done plenty of research on octopuses and am aware of their relatively short lifespan and special needs

The weaker blue damsel that i thought couldn't move has disappeared. I thought it might have died and floated over the overflow but it doesn't seem to be there :?

[EDIT] sorry for the double post
