I now am trying to decide whether to get a JD for my 55 gallon or one green terror and some dithers? I don't have experience with either of these fish and so I figures I'd ask you guys which you'd suggest. I'm looking for a more personable fish and I've heard from a lot of people GTs are pretty personable but really I've never heard much on the personality on JDs. So if you could tell me a little about JDs personality and maybe suggest from personal experience one of the two or even another larger personable cichlid It would be very much appreciated.

i've never had green terror or dithers but i had a jd for a while and i liked him. he was real cool. i had to get rid of him though because my oscar just didn't gel with him and i've had my oscar forever (in my pic). the jd was personable, probably the second most personable fish i've had, my oscar being #1.
 
I think Green Terrors are more relaxed then a Jack Dempsey, I have personally owned both over the years. Got rid of pair of breeding Jacks due to they kept killing everything in the tank. I just sold me Green Terror because my FireMouths are trying to spawn and she kept harassing them.

I think both fish are great, and are good to own. Personally I think I would go with an Electric Blue Dempsey, which is a blue version of the Jack Dempsey with bright blue coloring, but they do cost around $40 per fish.
 
I'd get a JD. I once many years ago raised one in my parents 125g from a little 1.5" baby to an 8" buddy. He followed me along the glass and would take food from my fingers. If my dad hadn't decided to turn it into a saltwater tank, he'd still be there. He was my favorite fishy ever! ~brandy
