I might have a problem with my pond....In my sig below you will find the link to my tropical pond. I recently installed spong filters on my powerheads (1 week ago) and my pond has been clearing ever since. Before the sponges you couldn't see down to the bottom of the pond (2 ft deep). Now you can see to the bottom no problem. I would say the water is almost as clear as an aquarium now. I am worried that now its so clear there wont be any microbes and bugs for the small fish to eat. I want my barbs and white clouds to spawn, but right now it looks like there is nothing for them to eat. Do I want a little more "green soup" in my pond??? I am worried that birds now might beable to see the fish in the pond and try to go after them.
I am sure that most people want really clear ponds, but my goal is breeding fish not necessarly being able to see them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If your pond is in full sun, don't worry you'll be fighting algea. Enjoy it while you can mine was super clear for about a month then it got green, but it comes and goes. Keeping it understocked and well planted keeps the algea at bay.

Maybe I am just in the ebb of the cycle. My pond have been going for about 1.5 months. Hopefully it greens up soon. In 600 gallons I only have like 20 fish, mostly barbs, white clouds, and paradise fish. To say its understocked, might even be an understatement!!

Oh man the pond is even clearer.....I have notice that the plant growth appears to be slowing, could this indicate limited nutrients in the water?!?!?! I am not seeing all the little bugs like I used to. Time will only tell....

look, for the birds all you have to do is put a net over it, and don,t worry in a weak you might be wishing it was like glass... the algea in my pond is constantly feeding my comet!! he is alwas really really fffaaattt
p.s. plants go though yearly cycles of growth when in ponds from rain and climate etc. etc.

if the sponges on the powerheads are accessable to the fish, they should learn to pick food off of them as needed. bird netting should be fairly easy to install, just have to put some posts up around the edges of the pond, and throw the netting overtop.
