Very New Newbe

Hello to all,
this is my first aquarium. i have purchased a 40gal tank and stand. this will be a reef tank with fish and soft corals, maybe some inverts. the rest is still in research. lots to know and lots of options. i dont know enough to even ask questions yet. i got a s/w aquariums for dummies book and it is a good start. looking forward to asking questions and seeing trying out the answers. have read some of the posts and i am impresed with the knowledge out there. i am sure i will get some help, that is when i am smart enough to ask questions. good to have found this web site. thanks, canister.

I wouldn't suggest trusting those "dummy" books. I've read aquariums for dummies, and it says you're a nut if you buy piranah, and that pacu get bigger than a car. It also only lists a few fish in the species information section, and says you should never, ever get cichlids. It's okay to write your opinion, but you can't sell a publicised book that openly bashes a lot of species.

there are probably plenty of other books at your library that are much better than the "aquariums for dummies" book. before i started keeping fish, i read like 6 books on aquariums from the library cover to cover at least once. it helped ALOT in the long run.
