I noticed this on my Tonga Branch today and it appears to be a sponge of sorts. If it is a sponge, I thought they were beneficial.

Looks like a sponge. Not really beneficial, but not bad either.

Pineapple sponge, harmless filter feeder and common in new tanks. Also reside alot in overflows and sumps.

Oh that's what those are! I have a few in my tank also. Some of mine look green though. Would that be the same thing? They look identical but are green.

I've not seen a green one unless you count dying ones that are a dusty brownish green.
