aardvark1 is a member here and he had a stroke the first week of July. I was there tonight and for the first time he is awake :headbang2: :headbang2: That is VERY, VERY good news when you've had a stroke and have been unconscious for a few weeks. I'm hoping to take some posts to him of encouragement that I can read to him. He is aware that I am there and can nod at me, but he is not talking yet. I remembered that he was a very active member here and was hoping you guys could help me out. I know it would mean the world to Art.

Of course I know Aardvark, his posts have always made me smile, not only because of the content, but because they always remind me of my favorite sesame street song- I'm an Aardvark. I always meant to mention that, I guess now is as good a time as any. :)

Just wanted to let everyone know I visited Art tonight and took the words of encouragement in. He smiled. They haven't taken him off of the trachea yet so he had a very hard time trying to talk with the hole in his throat. I don't think they have told him much yet just by the questions he was trying to ask. Told him why he had the trachea in his throat, he had went into respiratory distress. Told him who was caring for his fish and how long he had been gone. I am not sure they had told him yet that he had been asleep for three weeks, he looked pretty shocked. Told him I was really glad to see him and glad he had woke up and that probably got the biggest response from him, just so y'all know he is very glad he woke up too/. It will be a slow road to recovery but dang between yesterday and today he already looks so much better. He was able to lift his head off of the pillow and mouth words much more clearly. He waved to my son and tried to interact much more.
Just wanted to keep y'all updated.

I just wanted to add an update. Art keeps pulling out his trachea (whoohooo spirit and will to live), so they finally had to leave it out and he is breathing entirely on his own. :headbang2: :headbang2: :headbang2: :headbang2:
Since his trach is out now he can talk and he is just doing great (all things considered). I can't believe how much progress he has made in so little time. He told me to get him a drink, but I got in trouble from the nurses when they figured out he was having me sneak him some water (so whats a guy got to do to get a drink around there hahahaha). He knows everyone is thinking about him and misses the heck out of him. He just amazes me every day and I can't wait to see how much progress there is after this weekend. Going to be out of town, but will drop by Monday night. Asked him if he wanted anything and picked upo some diet cokes that I'll have to sneak in past the nurses. :grinyes:
(so whats a guy got to do to get a drink around there hahahaha).
:p: :p: :p:
That's great news! Sounds like Art is making a considerable recovery, a powerful will to live.

Went by Friday night and again tonight to see Art, he is allowed to eat food now. He got cleared by the doc late Friday night. A huge step towards making him self sufficient. I left a note as he was asleep again tonight already, (the meds), but nurse tells me he is doing awesome.
