I saw 3-4 small white crayfish at my LFS, they didn't have a name on the tank, but they cost about $60.
what species are they?? any info about them would be nice ;)

Most whites that I know are a morph of Procambarus Alleni, florida blue crayfish.
$60... ouch...

yea, this is a family owner store, so most of their fish are expensive, but well taken care of.
are they peacful? well, more so than a common crayfish?

Alleni's are supposed to be more peacful towards each other, but towards everything else they're still predators.

$60 still seems a little steep

Steep for just keeping them.
If you manage to breed them, though...

Look online, you can find the white strain of P. Alleni for much less.

A quick search of ebay showed a mated pair of white P. alleni. The starting bid is $24.99. I saw an auction, from the same seller, for the same thing that closed without any bids. So you may get them for the starting bid, if you're interested.

I love these guys, but I think they would enjoy most of my fish, especially the ropes, since they stay on the bottom.
the same place has blue crayfish for $25..

I always suggest keeps crays by themselves... or with fish who are intended to be targets. I use feeder guppies, it keeps the crays active.
1 of those would be good in a 10. You could try 2 in a 20, but layout the tank to include 2 separate terretories.

sadly all I have is a 5, 2.5 and 55g (and a temp 10g, which has my common cray now.)

There are no 'common' crays :)

well by Common, I meant the ones that are used for bait, food ect.
mine was only $1.
I understand, I LOVE my cray, he jumps to the front of the tank to attack when someone walks through the room.. sooo cute :hearts:

See, now, you can't get a cool-looking cray like that at an LFS - it's all blues, blues, blues. I'd lov to have one like him, he's more unique in an aquarium.
Sadly, we have no native crayfish on the island I live on, so can't go find one.

yea, if you were closer I'd give him to you because I feel bad for keeping him in a 10gal, and they are illegal to sell/buy around here(they weren't when I bought him ;) ).
And he can't stay in my pond anymore lol I don't think my goldfish like having he go after them :grinno:
