New 1.5g Planted Betta bowl

I've had a generic 1g Betta bowl at work for a while, had it stuffed with Anacharis, Java moss, and some Salvinia.

Found a really neat thick-walled vase at a closeout store. Its oblong front-to-back so it gives a lot of viewing area. The only problem so far is algae since the light is so intense. I'm looking for a 4-5 watt flourescent that fits in a regular socket.

Still working on the layout, but this is what I've got going so far:

Well..Its a well planted bowl I can tell you that although fitting an actually light in there might be a problem:( Maybe you could put a ordinary lamp next to the bowl?

The way i look at it, there a heck of a lot better off in there then they would of been in the jar of water at the store

re: size question: W/ adequate water changes, I think so, just because ti's fairly long, there's a little swimming room.

Can you just raise the existing light some? Intensity fades exponentially as distance increases. I think CFs come in as low as 4W that screw into regular sockets - check a big box, Wal- or hardware retailer near you.

That was the plan, I wouldn't try to attach anything to this bowl. Either a clip-light or a swing-arm lamp is likely.

vampie, thanks for the link. You're right though, a bit cost-prohibitive when you factor in shipping. I s'pose I can just cover up some of the existing light under my shelf to filter a bit.
