Hi,
I have had my lionfish for two and a half years now. He was a great eater of silversides and krill. However, this week he has started to starve and swim in circles on its side and in the tank. I have changed my carbon and cleaned my protein skimmer. I even have an airstone in there. I need to do a water change, even though I did one just last week. Any ideas what may be happening other than oxygen depravation Thanks. Reply soon, I want to save him.
What are your water test kits showing?

I do not have any kits. I hopefully can get one soon.
I would definitely go out and get some test kits immediately and test the water out. If not, can you take a water sample down to your LFS and have them test it out?
Water params is the first thing you should look at really.

Agreed, if you can't afford the kits right now ask a LFS to test the water as Yash said.
Hou been feeding him ONLY silverside and krill for the pat two and a half years, because that will mess a fish up.

I agree. Lions need a more varied diet. Mine have always been fed fresh seafood, with sel-con (vitamins) added. Shrimp, scallops, clam, squid, saltwater fish, etc. I do give them a betta on holidays. I'm not saying this is the source of your problem...and test kits are a must.

Thanks for all of the messages and ideas. Yes, I have been feeding only krill and silversides. I have a feeling that is one of the factors. A LFS tested my water and everything was fine. I tried an antibiotic, but it caused most of the lionfish's slime to be shed. I placed him in the freezer and will bury him tomorrow.

Sorry about your loss. Beautiful fish.
Lionfish are messy eaters. They can serously mess up your water quality. They do need a varied diet, and feeding him just krill and silversides isn't good enough for the longrun. How big was he or old? How big was the tank, i don't know about your system.
And when they tested your water, what is exactly "fine"? Always ask them what the levels were.
(Too many questions?)
