I agree w/ separate contests for Sw and FW - 2 totally different animals, and FW really can't compare to a really nice reef tank

As its me who actually runs the contest, can you please explain to me why paludariums and inverts deserve more attention than any other subject that can be photographed and entered in the two seperate competitions? for sake of better understanding of course..

Thats just it...the ammount of enteries...look through the previous entries that have been submitted and count up how many paludarium or vivariums? That will then give you an indication of how many people are interested in submitting that type of system..

to be honest, I think the vivarium forum is slow because when noobs post questions, they don't always get answers... I came to ac looking for paludarium info, and have found it, slowly... the point in having a vivarium/paludarium of the month would be to draw new users and get current users thinking about them as well. I'd like to see more activity in this area, and know from years of web development experience that if you build it they will come. even when googling for vivarium related info, there is a shortage of info... it's an opportunity for AC to start to fill that gap, and possibly capture more google results with the vivarium of the month contest... people looking for info will be sure to want to view the entries.

and while there may not be as many paludarium entries... didn't one recently win? that guy's been posting his tank all over the place, and it's getting tons of attention everywhere I've seen it...

i may be wrong, but, as the viv area is slow, i dont think that by creating another comp is the way ahead to intoduce more activity in there, if it was, there would be more people adding pictures to the comps...activity has to be done internally on that forum....by the people who frequent that area...

For example....i am building up traffic in the SW forums by running internal competitions....gets people interested....and it does work....

I have a contest idea called Aquarium Shop of the Month, People would give there favorite LFS's phone number, address, and name, And PICTURES of the inside and outside. The winner would recieve a certificate to give to there LFS,

Unfortunatly, this type of idea in itself would be leading to people leaving very negative comments if they have been to said store and recieved bad stock, advice etc etc...It then leaves the thread / comp open to a potential shop battering...

Get strict on that, if flaming occurs give warnings. Or dont let anyone comment but the person adding the store.

The point is, you dont want to give the oportunity for any flaming to be there...period...comp's are supposed to be fun and enjoyable....

If you were just going to limit the post to the person who posted the store, then there there is no basis of a comp as for something to win, people need to give there vote and comments...

A downside i see with that, is that people would be posting for the heck of it, just to win the comp, which kind of negates the object of the comp..as it also leads a rather large ammount of work to sift through all the posts to remove posts which are made for posting sake....i ya follow me Nick...

What about a OTM focusing on the members rather than just their aquatic responsibility?? At first i thought of a "service member of the month" type idea, for that above and beyond soldier, police officer, sailor, airman, firefighter, EMT, Grunt, or Coastie, but after thinking about it, i dont think its a good idea to put those people against each other as they should all be working together as a team, not competing, plus it would be hard for anyone on this site to judge something like that. But if anyone else has ideas for a OTM focusing on the member themselves, lets hear it...
